Metals required to make EV batteries include lithium, manganese, copper, nickel, cobalt, gold, antimony, and more.
You can’t make batteries without a whole lot of mining.
Stopping the Thacker Pass Lithium mine isn’t just about stopping this one lithium mine. It’s about stopping the many other lithium mines that will follow, and the many manganese, copper, nickel, cobalt, gold, and antimony mines as well. This one mine may not seem like much in the big scheme of things, but it represents a massive pit of devastation about to explode with the push to replace all our cars with EVs. Rare is any mention of cutting back, limiting our travel, or changing how we live, because in cutting back, there’s no growth for the global capitalist economy, the one that requires eating the planet alive. Instead, it’s always the push for more more more. We are quickly running out of more, and soon there will be nowhere left to live, and no life left alive.
We must stop this mine. We must hold the line. We must place our loyalty to land and life.
Join us at Thacker Pass to hold the line for land and life.
“Demand for metals used in EV batteries is expected to rise sharply as automakers including Tesla Inc, BMW and General Motors plan major expansions of EV production. California, the biggest US vehicle market, aims to entirely ban fossil-fuel-powered engines by 2035.
Biden has promised to convert the entire US government fleet – about 640,000 vehicles – to EVs. That plan alone could require a 12-fold increase in US lithium production by 2030, according to Benchmark Minerals Intelligence, as well as increases in output of domestic copper, nickel and cobalt. Federal land is teeming with many of these EV metals, according to the US Geological Survey.”

Please stop this mine. We need instead to be focusing on free energy that is already being explored. That is our next frontier. No more desecrating our beautiful Earth!
